Count me among the many Americans that voted for Barack Obama and that found relief/hope/inspiration with his election.
However, despite all of the good things that I believe Obama represents and all of the good things I believe he will do for our country, I’ve got to admit that I’m a little worried about his impact on “The Daily Show”.
I say the program’s golden era is over. Can Jon Stewart be consistenly funny without George W. Bush? Without Dick Cheney? Will the studio audience full of leftward leaning nerds laugh at Barack Obama jokes the same way that they laughed at George W. Bush jokes? I say no to all three.
I suspect that the show will go the way of the The Simpons and South Park – it will still be marginally funny…just not nearly as as it once was. Hope I’m wrong…
My prediction? Stephen Colbert becomes the new Comedy Central golden boy…that is if he hasn’t already.

I doubt Obama’s win will kill the Daily Show. I predict Obama will give Republicans ample opportunity to look stupid as they try to stonewall his agenda.
Man in black in White House
As Jon Stewart pointed out back when he killed Crossfire[1] (”STOP HURTING AMERICA!”), the Daily Show gets its humor from the innate messed-up-ness of the system. The Democrats will be just as fertile ground as the Republicans will be — and the shots the Daily Show has taken at Nancy Polosi (in particular) prove that out. If the Daily Show does fail, it will be because Jon Stewart and his writers can’t rise above his political bias to see the humor in both sides, but since we have seen them hit the Democrats before, I’m pretty sure that’ll keep going.
The one I’m concerned about is the Colbert Report. The Colbert Report’s fundamental concept is satirizing Fox News and similar right-wing dreck[2], which is funny because that crap was so widely accepted. The fact that Bill O’Reilly not only had a TV show, but that it was on a theoretical news station and actually influenced our national culture, is really the kind of shocking ridiculousness that the Colbert Report thrives on. Politics, polls, and viewership shows that kind of stuff losing a lot of ground, so I’m not sure the Colbert Report can push through.

[2] Please note that I can also go off on left-wing dreck: http://enfranchisedmind.com/blog/2007/08/04/the-i-35w-bridge-collapse-dont-politicize-this-disaster-with-mischaracterizations-and-lies/
Eric’s right I mean left I mean right, the Daily is headed straight for the crapper. Stewart just won’t have the same passion poking fun at the Dems and if he does a lot of his audience won’t like the material. Plus Obama will provide no laughs because he has descended from heaven to save us. Wait John I forgot that there still will be a few stupid Reps around to provide some comic relief to the new gospel, so lets keep our fingers crossed, and our noses stuck straight up. Just think about when Congress sends the new stimulus checks out, we’ll get a good laugh out of those stupid Reps saving the money. Those silly Republicans! I can’t wait to get some scratch-offs! Congress print me the money!
While InDecision contains some of their best fodder, The Daily Show will always find the humor. The writers are brilliant and will continue to vie for the Peabody.
and googled it to see, colbert and everything
